After four years of preparation and testing with some of the finest tuners in the field, I'm happy to introduce the CF Carbon Fiber Tuning Hammer. The CF tuning hammer features a 5/8" diameter carbon fiber shaft fitted to a newly designed tuning head made from 7075 aluminum. The tuning head will accept both the standard Hale type tuning tips and Jahn tips thanks to a double ended adapter (made with steel).
The tuning lever handles will still be hand-turned using quality domestic and exotic wood materials. The big difference with carbon fiber is the lightness of the tool - the average weight of a CF tuning hammer is around nine to ten ounces! The head, shaft, and handle are bonded together with West System epoxy to ensure the most sensitive feedback from the tuning pin to the tuning hammer.
My many thanks to the Advanced Manufacturing Institute through the College of Engineering here at Kansas State University for the manufacturing of these new tuning heads.
The next generation of newly designed tuning hammers are CF-A page. They are more expensive to make, but they also offer some enhanced features you might like.
